Description
On 28 March 1287, conquered by the men of Ottone Visconti, Castelseprio concludes its long story as an important fortified settlement. Seven hundred and thirty years after that event, the volume proposes the Proceedings of the study day held on November 27, 2017 and the first results of a research project supported by the Department of History, Art History and Archeology and the School of Specialization in Archaeological Heritage of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart which led to excavation, reconnaissance and survey in the area of the Archaeological Park.
Contributions are proposed on the political and military context in which the end of Castelseprio takes place, on the count dynasty that binds its name to that of the castle, on the coinage circulating in the Seprio and on the problems related to the study of finds from the Middle Ages.
The excavation investigations carried out in the “medieval house” are also presented, particularly fruitful as regards its last phases of use; the reconnaissance and survey investigations in the area of the "village"; diagnostic analyzes and virtual reconstructive hypotheses of the Romanesque church of S. Paolo.
