This is a work of updating and at the same time of deepening. Update of the Cesena archaeological map in the 2008 drafting (A Misura d'uomo 2008), as regards the territorial part of the municipality, and implementation of the 1999 map (Gelichi, Alberti, Librenti 2008) for the urban part. The in-depth study, in addition to the greater attention paid to the cartographic and schedographic aspects of the map of the known, relative to the urban part, is mainly focused on the issues of potential, the complexity of which is addressed here through new methods inherent to geoarchaeology and 'predictive' modeling surfaces 'of the period', that is, captured in the diachrony of landscapes. It is not our intention to propose a new model of archaeological potential for Cesena, as the principles remain substantially the same as the previous maps, both for the city and for the territory, but to refine its scope and depth, both through better knowledge. of the geological and geomorphological phenomena that have intersected the landscape, both in the territory and in the city, and through the application of a series of 'predictive experiments' that are used with increasing success in studies of this type, especially with regard to analysis of the period surfaces and the aggradations of the geo-archaeological deposits. Therefore, this third volume dedicated to the archaeological potential of Cesena is complementary to the previous two, in the composition of an overall picture that is the result of more than twenty years of research. The first chapter is dedicated to the data census: in continuity with the previous maps, we propose a series of update cards covering the years from 2009 to 2018 for the territory, and all the sites up to 2018 for the city, in fact, in this case, the previous urban cards have also been revised and implemented, as well as mapped with greater precision, as well as those updated after 1999. The second chapter proposes a series of in-depth information sheets aimed at illustrating some of the most significant Cesena excavations in recent years. Not only for scientific interest, in the various eras, but above all for the type of intervention and for the procedure followed by the researches, which appear increasingly determined by the procedures of preventive archeology. The third chapter specifically analyzes the problems posed by the determination of the archaeological potential, in the light of new disciplinary contributions and the comparison with other similar experiences.
