The volume, which collects eleven contributions from maritime archaeologists from many countries, aims to turn the spotlight on the enormous potential of wrecks of historical age, comparing, on the one hand, different approaches (from the Mediterranean but also from the United States, Australia) and Northern Europe), on the other hand, archaeological contexts with equally different characteristics for the location and for the civil or military use of the boat. The studies, diachronic but focused on the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, cover the various facets of the historical investigation of post-medieval wrecks such as shipbuilding, trade and life on board, but also exquisitely methodological aspects such as archeology naval experimental. This is an absolute novelty for Italian scientific publishing in which this particular, but very promising, area of ​​archaeological research had not yet found adequate space.
