After a series of thematic volumes, which have characterized the policies of the journal in recent years, Archeologia Postmedievale opens again, with its number 20, to a polyphony of contributions that take us from Conflict Archeology to the biological history of the population, the archeology of commerce and that of food. With a range of cases well distributed throughout Europe, they best represent the liveliness of thearcheologia postmedievale and the broad methodological vision that distinguishes it. The opening essay takes us to Cadiz and the recent discovery of a sixteenth-century wreck, sunk in the port of this Andalusian city, of a Genoese merchant ship, launched in 1573 and active in the grain trade from the ports of Sicily to Genoa and Spain, where he loaded wool and food items. On the theme of alpine fortifications, a solid contribution follows on a border site of the Duchy of Savoy, near the Piccolo San Bernardo pass, at the site of Orgères (La Thuile, Aosta), which was affected by articulated fortification works starting from since 1691, on the Franco-Savoy border. The essay that explores the role of micropaleobiology and the case study of the plague, as an integrated approach between metagenomics, historical and archaeological research, refers to the theme of the biological and health history of the population. The study marks a truly significant step forward in structuring more solid objectives of biological research applied to cemetery areas in general, but in particular to those of health catastrophes. The section "Archeologia Postmedievale in Italia ”is presented from this issue in a renewed editorial format, with the cards enriched with color illustrations of the investigations on the ground, 3D processing, graphic returns, artifacts and archival documents. The growth of the awareness of a lively scientific community around this part of the archaeological and cultural heritage continues to represent even today, at the passage of the twentieth issue, an essential cornerstone of the mission of the journal's cultural policy.
