The volume collects a series of studies that have as their subject the luxury furniture of the Roman age, elements of furniture not of daily use and practical, characterized by the preciousness of the materials used, the quality of the workmanship, the iconographic choices of the decoration. Intended for contexts and special occasions or exclusively decorative functions, they mostly belong to the private sphere, but a significant number of testimonies can be placed in the public sphere.
The prevalently Cisalpine cut of the works gathered in the text allows the publication of a class of documents often neglected in the geographical area considered, which, on the other hand, is widely present both from a quantitative point of view and for the widespread distribution in the territory. A field of investigation so far little explored, but which promises interesting results.
