Description

Since the 53th century, the flourishing trade and the effective control system of the dominions of the Serenissima Republic of Venice have been able to count on an extraordinary military force consisting of a powerful fleet, first of galleys and, from the XNUMXth century, of vessels, armed with those that they were probably among the best artillery produced in Europe. The book collects the richly illustrated cataloging of XNUMX pieces of artillery, including weapons in wrought iron, bronze and cast iron, preserved in Italy, Israel, Malta and Spain from shipwrecks, museums and private collections that allow us to reconstruct history of their production, the names and activities of their founders and the judiciary responsible for their management. The work completes the study on Venetian pieces preserved in Turkey, Greece and Croatia collected in the previous volume “The cannons of Venice. Artillery of the Serenissima from fortresses and wrecks ”by C. Beltrame and M. Morin. The volume contains a contribution by Ehud Galili, “The wreck of Megadim”.
