The volume presents the results of excavations carried out in the last fifteen years in the historic center of Faenza, in the course of which twenty-six butti have been identified that have returned from the earth a rich repertoire linked to various craft constituted a valuable source of data on both use and production. The analysis of the contexts precedes two chapters that examine the topic of waste, its production in relation to the city, the methods of its disposal, first from a general point of view and then linked to the concrete case of Faenza. There follows the section dedicated to contexts, divided according to their social origin and an appendix, with specialist contributions from various scholars who have dealt with some particular aspects of the butti. There is also an intervention on the recovery and restoration of the materials found, presented by a teacher from the Ballardini Art Institute. This school has in fact participated with its teachers and students in the recovery of most of the materials presented in the volume and the volume is dedicated to this institution.
