Description
In 2001, with the project "Archeologia dei Paesaggi Medievali”Coordinated by the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation and the University of Siena, it was decided to open an excavation site on the site of the Miranduolo castle, the remains of which had been found during surface research on the wooded hills known as Costa Castagnoli. The lunge on Miranduolo is part of a broader strategy of widespread excavations, which should include in the very near future the nearby castle and abbey of Serena, the production plants identified in the immediate vicinity of San Galgano and some of the sites recognized in reconnaissance. The increase in the locations investigated will give us the opportunity to plan an enhancement of the territory focused on the knowledge of settlement diachrony,
through visits interspersed with equipped and educational areas, which will alleviate the problems of congestion and "consumption" of the monument linked to the famous abbey.
