Description
The volume contains the integral study of the protohistoric evidence present in the Piana del Fucino and arises from the need to put order in a large mass of data, accumulated over the last fifty years, highly heterogeneous in date, method and nature of the findings and research archaeological. The work is divided into four 'sections'. A critical review of the archaeological sources and the history of the studies is followed by an exhaustive catalog of the sites and protohistoric materials of Fucino which constitutes the documentary basis of the entire work. The third section, divided into three chapters, deals with the chrono-typological classification of the material studied. Each chronological phase is treated separately and the chronology is based on a dense network of comparisons with other contexts in central and southern Italy. Of particular note is the chronology proposed for the Ancient Bronze Age. The fourth section, finally, outlines the profiles of the protohistoric settlement development in the Fucino basin in analogy with the basin of the ancient Velino lake, two territorial systems that have developed their economy and their social organization essentially in function of a lake (systems perilacustri settlements). As usual in the publications of the series, a summary in English completes the volume.
