Between 1988 and 1992, two emergency archaeological excavations were carried out in Castelfranco Emilia, connected to each other and the result of a precise territorial control based on the knowledge of archaeological precedents already known in the territory of the Municipality.
The excavations concerned two aspects of a single ancient settlement, lived in the eighth century. BC, ie the sectors of the village and the corresponding necropolis, an uncommon case in the group of ancient archaeological sites, particularly of the Iron Age.
More than ten years after these interventions and although the restoration of the recovered archaeological material is not yet completed - as unfortunately often happens due to the exponential increase in finds in recent decades -, this volume presents the first scientific results of the study of funerary objects already available. Of great importance is the work of reorganizing and interpreting the excavation data before the passage of time makes them less fresh and punctual in the minds of those who then directed and participated in the archaeological investigation and is now called to give an account of it on a scientific and public level. .
Moreover, a systematic work of publishing the archaeological contexts extended to the whole territory west of Bologna in the Villanovan age is being planned, which we hope will be the ideal location for the definitive scientific publication of this archaeological complex too.
