The volume is the scientific account of the excavations conducted in recent years at Baggiovara (MO). In an area in which a certain risk of discovery was only suspected, a fundamental element emerged for the knowledge of the ancient territorial organization of Emilia. The data collected show the widespread organization of the Modenese countryside by the Etruscans in the XNUMXth-XNUMXth century BC and the foundation on the same plant of the more precise and articulated Roman centuriation. Also in this case it seems to be confirmed that the approximately two centuries of control of the territory by the Boi Gauls have only apparently represented a drastic solution of continuity in the process of technological development of Cisalpine agriculture, initiated by the Etruscans and fully achieved with Romanization. Thanks to careful control exercised in a preventive manner, it was therefore possible to acquire a vast archaeological documentation capable of shedding light on the moments of greatest occupation of the territory, appropriately exploited both for agricultural purposes and for the breeding of livestock, the Etruscan and the Roman, both in the republican age and in the first century of the empire; a novelty is instead represented by the continuity of occupation of the site in late antiquity, with the identification of some burials.
