Description

Talk about archeology alibi, and therefore of excavations in archives, deposits and libraries, means dealing with the archeology of the future, near and distant, and, in the present, with a line of research that is, as it has always been, indispensable for the progress of knowledge of the world ancient: for three main reasons, which concern archeology in the strict sense, the cultural history of our society and the protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. First, only the excavations alibi they can allow to alleviate - and in a long-term perspective also heal - the most serious scourge of archeology, that of unpublished excavations: unexplored and sometimes unattainable deposits of work reports, surveys and finds to which no one has ever dedicated a systematic study, now for administrative or academic constraints, now for lack of interest or intention, now for lack of time. Digging into archives (excavated or in any case of archaeological interest), deposits and libraries allows, furthermore, to retrace entire chapters of the history not only of archeology, but also of the culture and society in which the discoveries were made and in which the studies, where carried out, have been conducted. Check the Vulgate, recovering unpublished data, re-reading the published ones, finally, are actions that offer a solid basis not only for scientific research, but also for the conservation and communication choices of the archaeological heritage and its memory, to which they provide data and information for projects of ordinary maintenance, restoration and enhancement. On these issues, by adhering to the invitation of the Archeologie alibi project of the University of Bologna, researchers who have in common a passion for the conservation and restoration of memory have chosen to confront each other.
