Technical Information
Oltrepò Pavese, a territory characterized by a precise historical-geographical identity, is known to the public above all for the pleasant hilly landscape and the food and wine excellence. For some years now, specialists from various sectors have dedicated themselves with an interdisciplinary approach to the rediscovery of its cultural value. In this perspective, the volume presents some innovations in a central portion of the Oltrepò gravitating mainly around the Municipalities of Rivanazzano Terme, Fortunago and Borgoratto Mormorolo.
Alongside the results of the archaeological excavations, the contribution of numismatics, toponymy and medieval and modern archival and documentary sources allows us to broaden our gaze to the logic of population and control of the territory, to the network of communication routes, distribution of goods and organization of assets. The Oltrepò proves to be a central land in the relations between the coastal regions of Liguria and the Po hinterland since the earliest times, on the border, but not on the periphery, crossed by the political and patrimonial interests of some of the most influential noble families of the Italian Middle Ages in a crossing of powers between civil and ecclesiastical institutions, feudal lordships, particular domains, from the powerful Gandolfingi to the Obertenghi marquises, from the Visconti to the Malaspina.
