Technical Information
The presence of the barbarian populations in Italy and in the neighboring regions between the end of the fourth and fifth centuries is a key aspect to understand the multiple and complex transformations of the West, when it was still politically related to the Roman Empire. From an archaeological point of view, however, the categories to be used to trace the presence of these new peoples, who arrived from the territories beyond the lime, but had already come into contact with the late Roman material culture for centuries, remain problematic. This difficulty is felt in particular in our country, where attention has only recently been paid to the issue. The volume takes stock of the tools available to archaeological research to trace these presences, also including contributions from scholars from countries where the issue has been under discussion for some decades.
