The volume is the first of a work which, due to the vastness of the archaeological problems and the specificity of the archaeological materials it examines, was designed in two volumes; in fact, presents the complete publication of the results of the archaeometric investigations conducted on the protohistoric Sybaritide, and on Broglio di Bisacce in particular, a project which constitutes the largest and most comprehensive research attempt based on mineralogical and chemical analyzes of protohistoric ceramics ever undertaken in Italy (600 analyzes mineral-petrographic and 300 chemical analyzes). The first volume examines the coarse inclusions ceramics, essential for understanding the correlations between local geology and ceramic products, and for tracing, on a mineral-petrographic basis, the reference framework for chemical characterization investigations, distinguishing within of the Sibaritide five different zones with peculiar characters. The central point of this phase of the study, on the historical-archaeological level, is the identification of a significant traffic of large dolii from oil and precious liquids (20% of which in Broglio is imported from the South of the Sibaritide), in all probability together with their content.
