This volume bears witness to the continuity of archaeological work and research in the Abruzzo region, beyond the administrative reforms which since January 2016 have marked the life of the Ministry's peripheral institutes on several occasions. The presentation of the works deliberately stops at the year 2015, therefore at the moment in which the Archaeological Superintendency of Abruzzo formally ceased its activities, even if many interventions that are presented have continued to be enriched with new research up to assuming, in many cases, the final appearance of places accessible to the public and therefore fully respecting the regulatory mandate of the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape according to which protection, use and enhancement of cultural heritage are all parts of a complex but unitary process.
The volume opens with the Contributions section containing essays by scholars who, from a historical and archaeological point of view, contribute to analyzing and deepening some topics dear to the archeology of Abruzzo. The second part contains the Newsletter, divided by province (L'Aquila, Chieti, Pescara, Teramo) which contains the reports of the interventions carried out from 2013 to 2015 by the Superintendence, both directly and indirectly through the control and/or participation in excavations, research and archeology studies by universities, archaeological cooperatives or societies, archaeological groups and Italian and foreign research centres. The Miscellaneous Activities section contains brief news on events, exhibitions, school workshops connected to the Archaeological Superintendency.
