The volume publishes the contributions of the study day and of the related archaeological exhibition, on the subject of "anomalous burials", that is, unconventional depositions and their cultic anomalies. The texts offer a starting point for reflection on this issue and a deepening from the point of view, not only archaeological but also anthropological, on the way of burying and on funerary rites through the centuries, from the classical age to the Middle Ages. The first part, through five short essays, offers a necessary introduction to the subject treated, offering, among other things, a general framework on vampirism and the practices connected to it; the second part presents the archaeological and anthropological study of anomalous burials in the Emilia area; while the third is dedicated to similar research in other areas of the Italian territory. There is also an appendix, with four specific contributions on the theme of the funeral ritual.
