This book, the result of archival research and the collection of testimonies of the subjects involved, offers a picture of the activities of democratic associations in the city of Prato through the events of its most characteristic institutions, the Case del Popolo, from post-war reconstruction to the early years of this century.
Francesco Venuti, born in Messina on January 1, 1946, living in Prato, graduated in 1971 from the University of Florence with a thesis on Roman history. From 1971 to 2006 he taught Italian and Latin in high schools in Prato. In the 70s he was a member of the Culture Commission of the Prato Communist Federation and a member of the Circolo Council of the Casa del Popolo in Coiano, as well as secretary of the school section of the PCI of Prato. He currently works as a volunteer at the ANCR in Prato (librarian and collaborator of a periodical journal Ultimo Voci) and is a provincial director of the ANPI, dealing with research on local anti-fascism.
