"Stories (of) Ceramics" is a study day dedicated to the memory of Graziella Berti, a scholar of medieval ceramics and an important figure for historical studies on medieval and modern Pisa, who passed away on 11 June 2013. This occasion wants to remember her in the way that she herself would have appreciated the most: through the themes dear to her, research innovation and new generations of scholars.

The fifth edition, held on 11 June 2018 in Pisa, five years after the scholar's death, was dedicated to the theme of "Production technologies”Intending in this way to recall the scholar's commitment in investigating the methods of making pottery, from the quarrying of the clay to the turning, from the decoration of the objects to the cooking in the furnace. The studies included in this volume, and presented during the fifth day of studies, offer observations on the manufacturing methods obtained both from the ceramics found in the excavations as kiln waste, and from the tools used by the potters or from the same kilns where the ceramic was fired. . Through material, archaeometric and experimental analyzes, and through the intertwining of written, material and ethnographic sources, the working methods and techniques used in the workshops, the habits of the potters, the ways of turning and decorating objects, any experiments, technological transmissions between different centers.
