Description

Proceedings of the Study Day in memory of Graziella Berti, seven years after her death.

29 October 2020 - Virtual meeting in live streaming

"Stories (of) Ceramics" is a study day dedicated to the memory of Graziella Berti, a ceramics scholar and important figure for historical studies on medieval and modern Pisa, who passed away on 11 June 2013. This occasion, now in its its seventh edition, wants to remember it in the way that she herself would have appreciated most: through the themes dear to her, research innovation and new generations of scholars.

The seventh edition, held online seven years after the scholar's death on 29 October 2020 in live streaming on Facebook and YouTube due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was dedicated to the theme of "Ceramic Basins" placed on the facades of religious and civil buildings . Since research regarding ceramic basins has slowed down in recent years, it was decided to dedicate the 2020 edition to relaunch this type of study and also return to the origins of the interests that brought Graziella Berti closer to ceramology. The researches contained in this wide-ranging volume concern both synthetic interventions and specific case studies, allowing the reading of the phenomenon of ceramic basins in the Mediterranean area, but also more widely, with chronologies of use and repetition that reach up to at the contemporary era. If it is true that most of the interventions deal with the Italian Basins, ranging in various areas of the peninsula and the Tyrrhenian islands and focusing attention on some regions where the phenomenon was more widespread, there is no lack of analyzes that investigate other countries such as Spain and the coasts of the Swaili.
