Technical Information
The volume contains data from a comparative analysis on graphic variations and technical innovations concerning a particular area of Lombard Italy, that of the Duchy of Benevento, in its period of maximum economic and cultural expansion. The investigation, carried out on epigraphic artefacts from the main urban contexts (Benevento and Capua) and monastic (Montecassino and San Vincenzo al Volturno), has allowed to highlight the strong links between writing and forms of power, with the highlighting of workshops lapidary "reserved" for court commissions and medium-low level craft shops. In the aftermath of the upheavals following the fall of the Regnum in 774, southern Italian epigraphy was also able to absorb the stimuli coming from the Frankish environment, with the consequent development of innovative and characterizing expressions especially in the monastic sphere.
